Background

Princess Anne was the only daughter of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. In 1973, she married Mark Phillips, a former Olympic equestrian. Anne and Phillips were the first of the Queen's children to marry and their wedding was a major media event.

Wedding Details

The wedding ceremony was held on November 14, 1973 at Westminster Abbey in London. Anne wore a white Tudor-style wedding dress with a high collar and medieval sleeves. Phillips wore the full scarlet and blue uniform of the Queen's Dragoon Guards. The ceremony was conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury and attended by over 2,000 guests.

Aftermath

Anne and Phillips had two children, Peter and Zara. They divorced in 1992 and Anne later married Timothy Laurence, a naval officer. Princess Anne is now known as the Princess Royal and continues to be an active member of the Royal Family.
